What are the age requirements for entering your program?
To enter our preschool program, children must be at least 3 years old by September 1.
To enter our kindergarten program, children must be at least 5 years old by September 1.
When should we begin the application process?
Families should begin their applications in late summer/early fall one year before they wish to enroll. Our application will become available on September 1st, 2020. Applications are due January 14, 2021 for the 2021/22 school year.
Admissions decisions are are communicated on March 190, 2021.
After March 19, we will still accept "post deadline" applications for the 2021-22 school year in grades spaces are available.
As part of the application, will our student have the opportunity to visit the school?
We very much want to include your child in our admissions process, and student visits are a great way to accomplish this. Unfortunately, the presense of the corona virus in our community necessitates a reevaluation of our plans for student visits on a month-to-month basis. With that said, here is our current plan for visits, as of 9/1/2020:
- Preschool applicants visit the school for an hour play date on Saturday, March 6, 2021
- Applicants to Prekindergarten and Kindergarten visit the school for an hour playdate, self-isolated with other applicants, and in a group size no larger than 10. These visits will occur in February.
- For applicants in grades 1-5, parents are contacted to schedule a parent interview and student visit day. Visits occur between January 14 and March 10. During their 90 minute visit, students will have the opportunity to spend time in a classroom.
- For all families applying for available spaces after March 19, a student visit will be arranged by the admissions department.
What is Giddens School looking for in a student?
We look for students who are interested in learning, are creative, and want to be a part of a classroom; and for families who believe in our mission.
What constitutes a complete application?
In addition to the parent portion of the application, an application is considered complete when all supplemental materials (i.e. teacher/caregiver evaluation) are submitted.
What should we expect in the interview?
Parents of applicants to grades 1-5 will meet with the Director of Enrollment during their child's visit day. This is an opportunity for parents to talk about their child, and to share their goals for their child's education, and to articulate their values related to education and school community.
When will we know if admission is offered?
Giddens School agrees to the common admission notification dates established by Puget Sound Independent Schools. For admission to the 2021-22 academic year, the notification date will be Friday, March 19, 2021. The parent/guardian response (confirmation and deposit) is due by Friday, March 26, 2021.
After March 26, we will continue to accept applications in grades where spaces are available.
What happens if my child is placed in the wait pool?
When an applicant is considered to be a good fit for the program, but space is not available, the applicant is placed in the wait pool. After March 26, we will contact families in our wait pool about available spots. Occasionally, additional openings may occur in late spring or summer, so it is important to keep us informed of your continued interest in Giddens School and updated with any changes to your contact information. A wait pool applicant does not have a specific place in the wait pool, but will be offered an available space based on the class composition.
Is financial aid available?
Giddens School is committed to providing need-based financial aid to qualifying families. For the 2021-2022 school year, financial aid awards are available to children enrolled in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, who have submitted all required documents by the deadlines determined by the school.
