June 26 - 30, 2017
K-1 Academy Class - ZENO MATH with Beth
During this fun and engaging math camp, campers will increase their confidence and competence as young mathematicians by exploring math concepts and skills through play-based math games and activities.
2-5 Academy Class - READER'S THEATER with Sharon
Campers will bring storybooks to life, taking on a new tale each day. Working off of scripts, campers will take on the role of narrator or character, practice lines for fluency and expression, and create added interest through movement. They will work together to create props before performing their final masterpiece on stage!
July 3 - 7 (no camp on July 4th)
K-1 Academy Class - AUTHOR STUDY with Hollis
Campers will embark on a week-long author study adventure of one of our most beloved children's book author--Dr. Seuss. We will learn about him and his collection of books, while focusing on a few favorites. The week will be full of visual art, dramatic reading, movement, and making Seuss-themed snacks!
2-5 Academy Class - VIRTUAL TOUR OF LATIN AMERICA with Karina
Campers will experience a fantastic tour of Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, and Puerto Rico. They will learn all about these amazing countries, including the culture and traditions, music, food, and arts.
July 10 - 14, 2017
K-1 Academy Class GARDENING with Reba and Regan
The garden will be bursting with life. Just in time for campers to spend the week in the garden planting and tending to a variety of vegetables, harvesting and tasting a variety of edibles from berries to leafy greens, creating garden-inspired art, building garden shelters, and exploring all that a garden has to offer.
2-5 Academy Class SPICE & HERB COOKING with Dan
Campers will become chefs as they learn the value of food and culture. They'll experiment with spices and herbs used in cultural dishes from the Mediterranean through the Middle East and Indian subcontinent to East Asia, as well as discover the environmental benefits of using seasonal, local offerings. Along the way, campers will discuss and experience how food brings people together, and the week will culminate with a luncheon for families and friends hosted by our student chefs.
July 24 - 28, 2017
K-1 Academy Class SCULPTURE with Angela
Campers will explore a variety of sculptural materials and how to use them to create 3-dimensional art. In addition to art making, campers will venture out in the community to experience public art and sculptures.
2-5 Academy Class DO IT YOURSELF FASHION with Samara
Campers will explore fun do-it-yourself fashion trends. Over the course of the week, they will design and create pieces of clothing inspired by their imaginations and make artful accessories to go with them.
July 31 - August 4, 2017
2-5 Academy Class COMICS with Grant
Campers who enjoy comics and graphic novels will love learning about how comics are made. In addition to reading tons of great comic books and publish some of their very own, campers will watch some cool videos from real artists and writers, meet with a special guest, and visit the central library to explore its graphic novel collection.
August 7 - 11, 2017
2-5 Academy Class SPORTS BONANZA with Murphy
Badminton, wiffle ball, soccer, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee are the sports campers will play during this fun-filled week. Each day, campers will also learn athletic skills and strategies, and how teamwork can be used as a tool for happy sporting.
August 14 - 18, 2017
K-1 Academy Class WONDERFUL WATERCOLORS with Siri
Campers will explore and experiment with different ways watercolors can be used in art? Each day, campers will practice different techniques and methods. Along the way, they will create their own masterpieces in watercolor.
2-5 Academy Class IMPROV with Sarah
Campers will hone their improv and team building skills as they practice taking risks and being open-minded. Campers will work together to create a story, as well as play games such as "Late to Work", "Freeze", "Build a Machine", and "Bus Stop". The week will culminate with an improv performance.
