Winter Enrichment Program

Enrichment classes are offered to provide children with a variety of fun and engaging learning opportunities that they may not have access to during their regular school day.

Each class is held once per week, for 6-12 week sessions. Enrichment classes are operated by outside vendors. Class sizes vary, as well as age/grade requirements.

Classes are held from 3:15-4:30. Students who are not picked up by 4:30 will be signed into the Extended Day program at the drop-in rate of $30.

Limited scholarships are available. Please contact Ori for more information.

Enrichment classes are not part of the Extended Day program.

Next Generation Yoga Winter Session (Grades Preschool-1)

Program Description: Yoga comes to life in these fun and creative classes designed to stimulate children’s growing curiosity! Playful Yoga poses and games, breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and relaxation techniques are infused with music, art, books, sensory exploration and learning points to create a unique learning experience. Next Generation Yoga classes spark children’s natural enthusiasm and joy, while supporting physical and social developmental skills. NGY classes are an equal balance between active and passive poses, song and dance, and time for sharing and reflection. Class themes include: Yoga Games, Dino-mite Yoga!, I am a Superhero, Outer Space Blast Off, Every Day Mindfulness, Peace Begins with Me, Yoga Makes Us Smarter and Imagine a Rainforest.

Giddens School Soccer with Murphy (Grades 2-5)

Athletes will have the opportunity to play various types of soccer games. Strategies and skills will be taught and reviewed each session, but the majority of our time will be spent in healthy competition. Based on the weather we will either be playing at Judkins Park or staying inside to play futsal style soccer in the Big Room.

Origami Explorations with Malaki (Grades 2-5)

Join Giddens School’s own Malaki Stahl in a paper folding extravaganza! Your child will learn and explore techniques of paper folding and paper model making, with some direction and some supported exploration. Check out Malaki’s Instagram @ifoldlofi for examples of geometric magic!

Program Description: Little Chefs is an exciting, hands-on culinary experience for prekindergarten and kindergarten children. Each week students will cook a new recipe using fresh, seasonal ingredients while using a variety of age-appropriate kitchen tools. This class is meant to take the mystery out of cooking by providing an interactive learning experience that gives children the opportunity to develop a life-long love for trying new foods and the culinary arts.

Acting for the Camera Winter Session (Grades 2-5)

Description: An on-camera class where the Y.E.S. students learn the fundamentals of screen acting through a series of acting exercises using improvisation and physical tasks. The students will become familiar with screen acting terminology, and experience the difference between screen and stage techniques. Each class begins with a vocal and physical warm-up, and the course ends with a digital download of students’ work.

Social Skills Play Group Winter Session (Grades K-3)

Program Description: This session focuses on problem solving and stressmanagement, through coached play and cooperative games. Giddens Play Groups are intended to help increase children’s confidence and competence in social play. Each class will highlight an important friendship skill such as turn taking, trading, problem solving, and social thinking skills. Children will be coached in play and engaging activities to support the generalization of friendship skills while having fun and connecting with their peers. After more than 20 years of conducting social skills therapy groups, this instructor has decided that coached play is the key to helping children to obtain real practice negotiating real social situations.

Program Description: In this continuing course in the Creative Computing series, students will build upon their foundational skills to create more sophisticated projects and games. Instructors introduce students to a variety of advanced concepts like Booleans, coordinates, variables, and message handling. Instructors provide personalized help so that students can progress at their own pace as they experiment with fun new challenges and they add on to the projects they previously made. Concepts in this class will prepare students to make video game phone apps in the spring enrichment course App Inventor.

Program Description: We do not underestimate the abilities of these little movers. Using our own custom designed soft equipment, we provide a safe environment for a sensory integrative experience developing motor planning, processing, and turning those thoughts to useful movement patterns that last a lifetime. These students will grow with the social and emotional benefits of structured and explorative play using basic parkour movements. Through a unique teaching method, borrowing from aspects of OT, PT, developmental psychology, and parkour, these little movers will certainly grow into the superheroes they aspire to be!

Program Description: Parkour is the ability to move fluidly through your environment from one place to another. In this class, children will safely learn to progress through the basic parkour movements of: jumping, vaulting, climbing, swinging, balance, and rolling. This class builds strength, balance, and coordination all while safely growing your ability to engage and conquer your environment, overcoming obstacles both physically and mentally.
