"I’m constantly amazed by the range of the Giddens School. They teach children to respect themselves and the world around them, they provide everything from academics to emotional security, and they encourage individuality while still providing excellent boundaries. What’s more, they welcome the world in, they don’t filter it out."

Description

Giddens's extended day program is called the "Rainbow Kids' Club" (or "RKC") – so named by children involved in the program in 1996. RKC ensures security and continuity in a child's day with adults they know and trust.

RKC staff are highly qualified and strive to create an interesting, flexible, and caring environment. RKC staff are also an integral part of the classrooms and work closely with the teaching staff, providing classroom and playground supervision while teachers take lunch breaks.

RKC's goal is to respect children's time outside of the classroom as that of balance between self-directed exploration and staff-directed opportunities. Children are placed in general age groups and move between the gym, playground, and assigned classrooms during the morning and/or afternoon. The gym allows for large-motor play on rainy days. Activities include art, social and strategic games, reading (cookies, multimedia projects), and just relaxing with friends.

Homework Time provides elementary-age students time (and assistance, if requested by the child) to work on their homework. This supports the needs of families with working parents, allowing families more time together in the evening.

Fees: Before School RKC $5.00 pre-registered, After School RKC $4.75 per pre-registered hour; $10.00 per drop-in hour
