Fall 2017 Enrichment Programs

Enrichment classes are offered to provide children with a variety of fun and engaging learning opportunities that they may not have access to during their regular school day.

Each class is held once per week, for 6-12 week sessions. Enrichment classes are operated by outside vendors. Class sizes vary, as well as age/grade requirements.

Classes are held from 3:15-4:30. Students who are not picked up by 4:30 will be signed into the Extended Day program at the drop-in rate of $30.

Limited scholarships are available. Please contact Ori for more information.

Enrichment classes are not part of the Extended Day program.

Monday

Karate-X Fall Session (Grades K-3)

Program Description: Join Karate-X this year for awesome classes that are disciplined, challenging and fun! Students will learn and practice Karate skills with punching bags, breaking boards, blocking drills, kicking targets and more! Karate-X has been teaching in the Puget Sound for 18 years, with a Martial Arts program specifically designed for preschool and elementary students. Our professional instructors know how to challenge and motivate kids while building self-confidence and discipline. Belt rank testing is held at the end of each session, giving students goals to aim for and recognition of their accomplishments. For beginners who have never tried Karate, to athletes of any sport, Karate-X will challenge and grow bodies and minds! Sign up now, our classes fill quickly!

Next Generation Yoga Fall Session (Grades PreK-1)

Program Description: Yoga comes to life in these fun and creative classes designed to stimulate children’s growing curiosity! Playful Yoga poses, breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and relaxation techniques are infused with music, art, books, sensory exploration and learning points to create a unique learning experience. Next Generation Yoga classes spark children’s natural enthusiasm and joy, while supporting physical and social developmental skills. NGY classes are an equal balance between active and passive poses, song and dance, and time for sharing and reflection.
Class themes include: Yoga Games, Dino-mite Yoga!, Gratitude is Our Attitude, Outer Space Blast Off, Every Day Mindfulness, Peace Begins with Me, Yoga Makes Us Smarter and Imagine a Rainforest.

Imaginary Creatures Fall Session (Grades Preschool-2)

Do you love to sing? Join Justine for the best hour of the week, Choir! This one hour class is packed full of new music skills, games, and of course singing! This is a non-auditioned, stress-free, welcoming group. No experience is necessary, and no one will be "on the spot" or excluded. Can't stop singing throughout the day? Join Choir! Program Description: Students are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy…sewing! No experience necessary for students to learn the basics and beyond. Beginning students will learn machine safety and beginning sewing techniques, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. Students will advance at their own pace to more exciting and challenging projects throughout the season. Projects, which are constantly rotating during the term, include backpacks, phone cases, clothing, accessories, bags, games, stuffed animals and more!

Creative Computing with Scratch 101 (Grades 2-3)

Program Description: In Creative Computing with Scratch 101, students design their own world and then bring it to life with Scratch, a visual drag and drop programming language developed at MIT. Through creating animations and developing interactive games, students learn the fundamentals of programming, including initialization, looping, and conditional statements. Students of all learning styles are captivated by the use of games, movement, and collaboration in the classroom. Instructors provide personalized help so that students can progress at their own pace as they experiment with fun new challenges.
Prerequisites: Open to students in grades 2-3 (1st grade upon approval). No programming experience required!

Next Generation Yoga Fall Session (Grades 2-5)

Program Description: In Next Generation Yoga classes, children will participate in fun and joyful Yoga and mindfulness activities that they can take off the Yoga mat and into their everyday lives. NGY classes for this age group are developed with maturing independence in mind and encourage a deeper sense of body awareness, self-exploration and interpersonal skills. In addition to accessible mindfulness activities, these classes introduce flowing Yoga sequences, partner poses, cooperative Yoga games, breathing exercises and creative relaxation techniques. Class themes include: A Walk in the Woods, I am a Superhero, Kindness Matters, Night Life, Root to Rise: Reggae Yoga, Together We are One!, Volcano Yoga and Water is Life.

Program Description: We do not underestimate the abilities of these little movers. Using our own custom designed soft equipment, we provide a safe environment for a sensory integrative experience developing motor planning, processing, and turning those thoughts to useful movement patterns that last a lifetime. These students will grow with the social and emotional benefits of structured and explorative play using basic parkour movements. Through a unique teaching method, borrowing from aspects of OT, PT, developmental psychology, and parkour, these little movers will certainly grow into the superheroes they aspire to be!

This class is meant to take the mystery out of cooking by providing an interactive learning experience that gives children the opportunity to develop a life-long love for trying new foods and the culinary arts.

Program Description: Parkour is the ability to move fluidly through your environment from one place to another. In this class, children will safely learn to progress through the basic parkour movements of: jumping, vaulting, climbing, swinging, balance, and rolling. This class builds strength, balance, and coordination all while safely growing your ability to engage and conquer your environment, overcoming obstacles both physically and mentally.
