Enrichment Programs

Enrichment classes are offered to provide children with a variety of fun and engaging learning opportunities that they may not have access to during their regular school day.

Each class is held once per week, for 6-10 week sessions. Enrichment classes are operated by outside vendors. Class sizes vary, as well as age/grade requirements.

Classes are held from 3:15-4:30. Students who are not picked up by 4:30 will be signed into the Extended Day program at the drop-in rate of $30.

Limited scholarships are available. Please contact Ken for more information.

Enrichment classes are not part of the Extended Day program.

Next Generation Yoga Spring Session (Grades Preschool-1)

Program Description: Yoga comes to life in these fun and creative classes designed to stimulate children’s growing curiosity! Playful Yoga poses, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques are infused with music, art, books, sensory exploration and learning points to create a unique learning experience. Next Generation Yoga classes spark children’s natural enthusiasm and joy, while supporting physical and social developmental skills. NGY classes are an equal balance between active and passive poses, song and dance, and time for sharing and reflection. Class themes include: Yoga Games, Dino-mite Yoga!, Gratitude is Our Attitude, Outer Space Blast Off, Peace Begins with Me, Every Day is Earth Day, Yoga Sports, Yoga Makes Us Smarter and Imagine a Rainforest.

Acting for the Camera Spring Session (Grades 2-5)

Program Description: An on-camera class where the Y.E.S. students learn the fundamentals of screen acting through a series of acting exercises using improvisation and physical tasks. The students will become familiar with screen acting terminology, and experience the difference between screen and stage techniques. Each class begins with a vocal and physical warm-up, and the course ends with a digital download of students’ work.

Program Description: Karate-X has been teaching Martial Arts at schools in the Puget Sound for 16 years, with classes specifically designed for preschool and elementary school students. Our exceptional program develops the whole person, mentally and physically, resulting in greater self-confidence and self-discipline. The format of each class varies to keep students motivated and focused. Classes include a warm-up with endurance and strengthening exercises, followed by stretching, karate techniques, and focus activity of the day. Belt rank testing is held at the end of each session, which provides students with goals to work towards and recognition of their accomplishments.

Program Description: Parkour is the ability to move fluidly through your environment from one place to another. In this class, children will safely learn to progress through the basic parkour movements of: jumping, vaulting, climbing, swinging, balance, and rolling. This class builds strength, balance, and coordination all while safely growing your ability to engage and conquer your environment, overcoming obstacles both physically and mentally.

Program Description: Coached play and cooperative games. Giddens Play Groups are intended to help increase children’s confidence and competence in social play. Each class will highlight an important friendship skill such as turn taking, trading, problem solving, and social thinking skills. This session will focus on "the friendship challenge." Children will be coached in play and engaging activities to support the generalization of friendship skills while having fun and connecting with their peers. After more than 20 years of conducting social skills therapy groups, this instructor has decided that coached play is the key to helping children to obtain real practice negotiating real social situations.

Program Description: We do not underestimate the abilities of these little movers. Using our own custom designed soft equipment, we provide a safe environment for a sensory integrative experience developing motor planning, processing, and turning those thoughts to useful movement patterns that last a lifetime. These students will grow with the social and emotional benefits of structured and explorative play using basic parkour movements. Through a unique teaching method, borrowing from aspects of OT, PT, developmental Psychology, and parkour, these little movers will certainly grow into the superheroes they aspire to be!

Program Description: In this continuing course in the Creative Computing series, students follow their interests and use their foundational skills to create more sophisticated projects and games. Instructors introduce students to a variety of advanced gaming and animation techniques and provide individualized support as they take on new challenges like modeling with mathematical equations and Boolean logic. Students have the opportunity to learn and implement gravity and scrolling backgrounds to build platform games similar to Super Mario Bros.
