Gifted Education, October 26, 2017

Dr. Nancy Hertzog received her masters’ degree in Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut under the tutelage of Dr. Joseph Renzulli, and her Ph.D. in Special Education under her advisor Dr. Merle B. Karnes. Her research examines curricular practices and policies in the field of gifted education.

Gender Diversity, January 25, 2018

This 90-minute workshop will engage parents and families in a conversation about gender at Giddens School. Participants will learn more about youth gender identity formation and have an opportunity to ask questions and get information in an open and welcoming space. Megan Kennedy (LMHC, MA) has provided consultation and training regarding gender and sexual diversity to government agencies, human service agencies, public and private schools, colleges and universities, faith-based institutions and community- settings across the United States and Canada. She is the co-producer and director of a 35-minute documentary film that addresses youth gender and sexual diversity called, “PUT THIS ON THE MAP” featuring 26 youth from Seattle’s Eastside suburbs. Kennedy currently works full time at the University of Washington in a role designed to lead a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention on campus. Register for Childcare

Technology and your child, March 21, 2018

In this highly interactive parenting workshop with Emily Cherkin, local mom, writer, and teacher, parents will learn current information on technology use and brain development, explore how technology use meshes with family values, and receive tools to help kids (and parents!) become savvy consumers of our culture. You will complete this workshop feeling knowledgeable, empowered, and supported in carrying your digital native into their next phase of development.
