Welcome to Giddens School PE! More than just games!

Preschool through 5th grade connect with fitness through: cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, strength training, nutrition, anatomy recognition, pre-sports skills, teamwork and more! Youth with a healthy, active lifestyle are more likely to develop both socially and emotionally. The plan is to empower and build confidence in our kids to support a strong foundation for a fit and healthy life!

Key PE Phrases: Do Your Best! Try Again! Win Graciously, Lose with Dignity! Teamwork! Be a Leader! Go for Your Personal Record! Who’s Working Hard?

February Skill Building

Preschool & Pre-K
Classes have been working on overall gross motor development! Here are some of the skills we been practicing:
1) Yoga
We are still working on finding our "center." The students have memorized and can perform 14 poses; we will be working on increasing that number by June!
2) Locomotor Skills
Walking, running, jogging, skipping (this is a challenging skill, practice at home will be helpful), galloping, jumping/leaping/hopping, learning the basics of jump roping, increasing distance of standing long jumps.

4th & 5th Grade Claim Their Fitness!

Our 4th & 5th graders can take you through a great fitness routine consisting of cardio, flexibility and strength! Students and understanding what each type of exercise is and how it affects the body. They are able to name major muscle groups and identify those muscles on their bodies. Our core strengthening consists of movements for upper and lower abdominals, obliques (our favorite word) lats and traps. Up to 120 repetitions!

2nd & 3rd Graders are Fit and Fun!

Run, stretch and strengthen! How do we get fit? Through a variety of cardiovascular exercises like running and jump roping, partner and individual stretching, strength training and of course…games! Our focus has been to “warm-up” the body with short cardio exercises, flexibility and upper, lower and core strengthening. Game play has highlighted strategic teamwork.

Preschool-1st Grade Balance Pros!

In September, students focused on integral mechanics necessary for success in a variety of dynamic and static balance situations. Like what?? Ask your child to show you the “Flower”, or how to play “Airports.” Students discovered proper weight distribution combined with strength needed to perform static and dynamic balance challenges!

Preschool’s favorite game: Red Light, Green Light!
